Week 8: Statistics on Teen Pregnancy

Teen Pregnancy happens all around us, even if we don't know about it. According to the article, Statistics on Teen Pregnancy,

"In 2000, the total number of teen pregnancies in the United States was 821,810 (84 pregnancies per 1,000 people). "

The number of teen pregnancies has decreased since then, which is great. Also, in the United States, the 18 - 19 year-old age group had a higher rate of pregnancy than the 15 - 17 year-old age group. However, 15 – 17 year-old pregnancy rates dropped by 23% between 1992 and 2000, but the 18 to 19 year-olds rate only went down by 11%.

In addition, in the article, Teen Pregnancy Stats, Facts and Prevention, it is said that teen pregnancy costs the United States over 7 billion dollars a year. Also, that "34 percent of young women become pregnant at least once before they reach the age of 20 -- about 820,000 a year." At least the rate is dropping down, due to abstinence talks and birth control methods.

Lastly, in the article, Teen Pregnancy Statistics, it says that 1/3 of teen girls will get pregnant. that number is too high for the united states. People aren't promoting that abstinence is the best way to go for teens because that cant give the baby the proper materials it needs to survive. Also, "More than 2/3 of all teenagers who have a baby will not graduate from high school. " When people don't graduate from high school, they wont have money to support the baby because they need school to get a job.

All these statistics are out of control. Teens should choose abstinence so they can graduate from high school and go to college. Waiting is the best option.
