Week 11: Effects on Teen Pregnancy

Teen pregnancy can caused in many ways, but the effects are much more severe. In the article, "The Effects Of Teen Pregnancy On Children", explains all the effects teen pregnancy has on the children. The quote "Children from homes run by teenage mothers have to face almost insurmountable obstacles in life." means that the children go through very tough situations. They can face depression and mental problems, not having a father figures, and poverty. Children can also face social disabilities, sadness, aggressive behavior, a lot of illness, difficulty in school, eating problems, and sleeping disorders. If children don't have good role models, then they will be bad themselves.

Also, in the article, "Teenage Pregnancy - 7 Traumatic Effects Of Teenage Pregnancy!" it explains what effects teen mothers go through. It's hard for teen moms to graduate high school, find money to financially pay for the baby, and the teen moms children often have retarded psycho-social development as well. Some teen moms act in inappropriate ways as well. Some teens need to go on welfare too.

Lastly, in the article, Effects of Teen Pregnancy, explains the effects of pregnancy on a teen and how stressful it is for them. The effects include making decisions that they aren't ready to make, whether or not to keep the baby, to go through with abortion, or give the baby up for adoption. Then, there are the effects of each of those decisions. The body is also changing, the partner or boyfriend usually isn't there to help make these kinds of decisions. Teens don't know where to turn when they find out they are pregnant. They don't want to tell their parents and they end up trying to hide the pregnancy as long as they can. The teen doesn't realize the importance of good nutrition for their child and if they don't treat their child well, it will result in bad prenatal care. So when a teen mother gets pregnant, it really can effect their lives, and how their baby is treated.

Week 10: Important Facts on Teen Pregnancy

Everyone knows how often teen pregnancy occurs, but it seems like not very many people know the TRUE facts. In the article, "Teen Pregnancy Statistics in the US", It explains facts and statistics that can help people know what teen pregnancy is all about. First off, three-quarters of a million teens between 15 and 19 become pregnant each year, which can really add up. Also, out of all teen pregnancies, 57% end in birth, and a third of the teen pregnancies end up in abortion. In addition, teens who become pregnant are less likely to attend college or even finish high school.

In the next article, "Facts About Teen Pregnancy", it explains that about 1 in 3 women become pregnant at least once before they're 20. Also, a sexually active teen who does not use contraceptives has a 90% chance of becoming pregnant within a year. It additionally affects their kids too because girls born to teen mothers are more likely to be teen mothers themselves and boys born to teen moms are more likely to end up in prison. Lastly, over 50% of girls have sex because their boyfriends want them to and they decide to give in.

Lastly, in the article, "Its Time to get Informed", it explains that teen pregnancy can have serious consequences for girls and guys. Also that teen mothers are likely to have a second birth relatively soon, which is definitely not good. Single teen mothers also are likely to be poor and not be able to raise their kids as best as they can. Additionally, eight out of ten fathers don't marry the mother of their child. That can screw not only the mothers life, but the child's life as well. Everyone wants a father figure in their lives. So people need to be informed of the real facts.

Week 9: Reasons for Teen Pregnancy

Teens get pregnant every day and they dont realize how much it will affect their life. Teens have many reasons for choosing to get pregnant. In the article, Teen Pregnancy - 3 main reasons teens get pregnant, it talks about how a major reason teens turn to pregnancy is for love. They want their boyfriend to love them and the baby they are carrying. They can also experience the unconditional love from the baby they have.

"Teens seems to think their invincible and nothing bad will ever happen to them.. but the truth is that pregnancy does happen and many of them never even believed that having sex would make them pregnant." said Victoria. I agree with that because being a teen myself, we generally never think anything bad will happen to us.

Also in the article, The Reasons Teens Get Pregnant, another reason would be by force. "While actual force to have sex is rare, many teenage girls (especially those under the age of 15) feel pressured to have sex." the article explained. In addition, it explains that teens arent getting enough sex education in schools, which means teens don't understand the responsibility of a baby. Teens dont get taught on how important contraceptives are if you are sexually active.

Lastly, in the article, The real mistake in 'teen pregnancy', some researchers say that teen mothers have babies and get pregnant because they are using a strategy to get food to nurture them and the baby.

"Teenage motherhood may actually make economic sense for poorer young women, some research suggests." says researchers. I agree because people can get more attention if they are pregnant.

Week 8: Statistics on Teen Pregnancy

Teen Pregnancy happens all around us, even if we don't know about it. According to the article, Statistics on Teen Pregnancy,
"In 2000, the total number of teen pregnancies in the United States was 821,810 (84 pregnancies per 1,000 people). "

The number of teen pregnancies has decreased since then, which is great. Also, in the United States, the 18 - 19 year-old age group had a higher rate of pregnancy than the 15 - 17 year-old age group. However, 15 – 17 year-old pregnancy rates dropped by 23% between 1992 and 2000, but the 18 to 19 year-olds rate only went down by 11%.

In addition, in the article, Teen Pregnancy Stats, Facts and Prevention, it is said that teen pregnancy costs the United States over 7 billion dollars a year. Also, that "34 percent of young women become pregnant at least once before they reach the age of 20 -- about 820,000 a year." At least the rate is dropping down, due to abstinence talks and birth control methods.

Lastly, in the article, Teen Pregnancy Statistics, it says that 1/3 of teen girls will get pregnant. that number is too high for the united states. People aren't promoting that abstinence is the best way to go for teens because that cant give the baby the proper materials it needs to survive. Also, "More than 2/3 of all teenagers who have a baby will not graduate from high school. " When people don't graduate from high school, they wont have money to support the baby because they need school to get a job.

All these statistics are out of control. Teens should choose abstinence so they can graduate from high school and go to college. Waiting is the best option.

Week 7: Problems with Teen Pregnancy

Teen Pregnancy affects everyone around you, whether its friends, family or even yourself. In the article The Problems With Teen Pregnancy, the author explains how teen pregnancy has many issues to come with it.

"There are negative implications for teen moms in relation to teen pregnancy. For mothers the pregnancy related death rate is increased for those giving birth before the age of 15." says the author, Angela Atkinson. The younger you are, the greater the risk is of death. Another main problem is that the mother wont gain the proper weight that a mother needs to be.

Also, in the article, Teen Pregnancy, Another problem teen mothers face is the use of drugs or alcohol. None of these substances are safe for teen mothers. In fact, their use can hurt the pregnancy and even further increasing the likelihood of premature birth and other complications. Teen mothers need to be cautious of what they put in their body because they don't want to harm the baby. Many of the teen mothers who take positive roles in their care do go on to have very healthy babies, even though they will face difficult situations.

Lastly, in the article, Problems Associated With Teen Pregnancy, they talk about how teenagers who are pregnant may not seek the best medical care that may lead to a bigger risk of medical complications. During their pregnancy, teens need medical care and education particularly in nutrition and complications of pregnancy. Pregnant teenagers will bring all sorts of emotions, whether they are excited about it or upset. Also, depression is common during pregnancy in teenagers. Their are many problems that are involved with teen pregnancy. Is it worth it?
